The historical town of Crayford is chronicled as far back as the eleventh century in the Domesday Book, in which, it is said to have had a relatively large population of 27 regular householders! Nowadays, it’s fair to say that the town has grown somewhat, with a vast array of properties to choose from.
During the First World War Vickers built military aeroplanes and armaments and became the dominant employer in the area, building a whole estate of homes for its workers, which are still a very popular place to live today. Crayford is well known for manufacturing and is historically linked with the Maxim Nordenfeldt Gun and Ammunition Factory which subsequently became better known as ‘Vickers’. Crayford Town Hall was originally the canteen for the Vickers workers and remains a major landmark to this day but has now been converted to luxury apartments.
The immediate area is well served by Sainsbury’s and Aldi who have very large outlets and the Tower Retail Park boasts an impressive array of well-known retailers with a multitude of popular small businesses in the surrounding areas, which means, it’s a town which ideally serves the needs of the local community.
Crayford is the perfect base in which to set up home and an ideally situated place to live, enjoying excellent rail and bus routes links, close enough to the capital to make the journey in a breeze, but far enough away to escape the hustle and bustle.
Crayford Mainline Station offers easy access to London - Charing Cross via London Bridge via both Lewisham and Woolwich Arsenal as part of a loop service. TFL bus services extend to all the local areas including Bexleyheath, Dartford and Bluewater, known as the ‘ultimate shopping experience’, with its 300 stores, 60 restaurants and stunning entertainment complex.
